Welcome to Work in Progress, an online video series where we will explore works of art from Gallery 2’s Permanent Collection. Gallery 2 is embarking on a big project to install new storage for our collection and to create a gallery space dedicated to showcasing the many works of art that we take care of. Let’s get inspired and make some art!
In this final episode of the Work in Progress video series, summer students Kalayna and Abby are getting inspired once again by the artwork of William Featherston. In William Featherston's two large scale paintings "Demolition Derby #3" and "Demolition Derby #4," he depicts a scene from his local community of Vancouver, BC. Using photography, Kalayna and Abby capture their own local scenes of Grand Forks, and they invite you to do the same!
In this episode of Work in Progress, Gallery 2 summer students Kalayna and Abby are getting inspired by the lithograph print "Soroseelutu Cape Dorset" by Joyce Wieland from the gallery's permanent collection. Wieland's portrait of Soroseelutu portrays Indigenous identity in relation to the land as well as the physical body of another woman artist. Kalayna and Abby will be making their own inspired portraits, and we invite you to do the same!
In this episode of Work in Progress, Gallery 2 summer students Kalayna and Abby are getting inspired by the print "Weekend Special" by Vancouver based artist Kenneth Pattern from the gallery's permanent collection. Pattern's artwork blends reality with fantasy to create unique compositions. Kalayna and Abby will be making their own creative combinations, and we invite you to do the same!
Work in Progress is back! In this episode, Gallery 2 summer students Kalayna and Abby are getting inspired by the painting "Good Move, Hank" by William Featherston in the gallery's permanent collection. Featherston's painting depicts a group of people looking at the artwork "L'escargot" by Henri Matisse. Kalayna and Abby will be creating their own works of art that depict other famous works of art, and we invite you to do the same!
